About

Hello there! Welcome to Bookmark Lit.

My name is Lauren and it’s only me here at Bookmark Lit. (Before you ask, this is a play on the phrase “bookmark it” and lit = literature, okay? I came up with this name and it stuck.) This is where I share a lot about me and even more about books.

I graduated from business school in 2013, picked up reading again after having some “dark ages” during college, and started this blog up to talk books! I wish I had a dollar for every failed blog/website I tried to make over the years. No topic has ever really stuck for me, for some reason. Reading has been something I can always count on. I should have thought of this kind of blog ages ago! Either way, Bookmark Lit started up in July 2014 and has been going strong ever since. I truly can’t believe I’ve kept up with blogging (or any hobby in general) for this many years. I have a short attention span, hobby or sport-wise, so this is a Big Deal, okay??

I went to school for marketing and had minors in literary & cultural studies and sociology. I work at a small recruiting firm where I handle marketing (social media, website, etc.), recruiting, account management, and daily operations. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher and have plans to get a Master’s in something that allows me to teach a subject I’m passionate about (maybe as an adjunct professor at night, or something like that!).

I have an excellent husband, Chris, that I’ve been with since 2012. He doesn’t read as much as I do, but I get plenty of reading time in when he plays video games or builds Lego. He likes to read graphic novels (usually Marvel ones but some others too) and books about skateboarding or Lego. The book community has been amazing with helping me find good audiobooks for him to listen to at work, since he’s a picky reader πŸ˜‰ We got engaged on our anniversary in 2019 and married in 2021.

I’m obsessed with the Carolina Panthers and have been a fan since they joined the league, when I was about 4 years old. I finally saw a game in person in 2013 and it as unreal to be among my people finally. I care about football more than I should and get way too annoying passionate when watching almost any game, even if my team isn’t playing. We try to see the Panthers every other year and take a trip down to Charlotte.

Chris and I love collecting and building Lego sets/bricks. We focus on mosaics usually but also do a lot with our Lego city (which took over our dining room table for a couple of years). We’re were members of a local LUG (Lego User Group) for AFOLs (adult fans of Lego). The community is amazing and we’ve attended conventions around the country, but we’ve taken a bit of a break from it all for a couple of years. Our latest hobby for the past few years is wrestling. Like most people, it started with WWE and then moved into New Japan, some Ring of Honor, and now AEW. We spend… many hours… each week/month watching wrestling! It’s fun and gives us something to chat and theorize about.

I have an unhealthy obsession withΒ Friends and truly can’t even guess how many times I’ve watched all of the episodes in order. I love it so much that I don’t even like talking with people about how much I love it because I get too worked up. I love a good Netflix binge but this has slowed since graduating from college. Reading takes over a lot of my time now, but I like being able to lower my goals and focus on other hobbies lately. I’ve tried a lot of things – like planners, journals, crafting, bracelet-making… you name it – but really nothing sticks for me!

I love slurpees, coffee, pizza, Mexican food, margaritas, and crab rangoon. I listen to music from a long time ago instead of today’s – anything in the 90s (from Nirvana to NSYNC) and anything in the 60s or 70s (Led Zeppelin to Lynyrd Skynyrd). I love hiking and skiing and exploring new places with Chris. My life is pretty damn good.

  1. Hello there! I am new to the book blogosphere and just love your site! I came across it yesterday and I must say that I really like the new banner! I can definitely relate as a college student who loves to binge-watch Netflix. I love how much you love Friends… I am just starting to get into it and must say that so far Ross and Chandler are tied for my favorite. πŸ™‚

  2. This is literally just the blog I’ve been looking for! I just graduated college, and only really had time to read for pleasure during my last semester. With working full-time now, how do you manage to read so many books? I find I’m always exhausted when I get home from work and just can’t pick up my current read!

  3. Hi, Lauren! I am new to your blog, but I really love it. You’re doing a wonderful job here. I am a book blogger over at bookslayerReads and I was wondering if you would be interested in being in my Saturday Special feature where I introduce experienced book bloggers and ask them for advice for newbies, as well as some get to know you questions. If you’re interested, you can DM me on Twitter at bookslayerReads. I tried to find your Twitter handle on your blog, but was unsuccessful. Hope to hear from you soon!

  4. Hi! I just wanted to stop by and say hello. I’m a new follower (via bloglovin and twitter).
My husband and I are huge Panther fans also. He’s been a fan since the start of the team.
It’s great to find someone else who loves Friends as much as I do. I binge through the seasons all the time and it drives my hubby crazy, lol!
